@Liftyourvoice: yes it is a little saddening but we always seem to make such a fuss about "the church" being the people and not the building or organisation. If that's the case then we, the church, are the only ones who can do anything about the status quo. Hence M108. Feel free to hop over there and join in with the rest of the church.

cheers

I find it saddening that it's been almost 5 years since your original post on this topic. We're still shouting the same message!

Just once in our time it would be amazing if the church led the world forward into freedom, rather than following 15 years too late.

Well I use a gas stove and a cast iron griddle so temperature is really a matter of experience for me. I burned my first few as well so don't worry just keep trying.

My griddle extends over two gas rings which I have on high until it is hot and then I turn down to medium/low as I cook. You want the plate hot but not so hot that your cakes will cook/burn in ten seconds. I flip my after about twenty seconds and they're done in about 30.

If yours are burning then the heat is too high or you're leaving them on there for too long. Like any food cooked over a heat (such as fried eggs) they will cook a little further once they're off the heat so don't be afraid to take them off just before they're "done". Another thing to try is making them a bit thinner. Sometimes with thicker ones the temptation is to leave them on for longer while the inside cooks which means the outside burns. A thinner cake will maen you leave it on longer. My aunt makes them a lot thinner than I do but they're too crunchy for me. :)

I'm afraid with these things it's very much trial and error but don't give up.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your comment Adam. I'm not sure there's a need for a specific Christian CC-type licence as CC licences permit performance anyway.

I've long had an idea for a directory of Christian resources under less restritive licences (CC/PD etc). I've seen a few similar projects start and fade (mostly through lack of input it would appear) over the years too but I still think it's a project and resource that the Church may need more than it thinks.

You're right in that there's not enough of 'us' speaking about this but I've noticed that -- with the recent upsurge in voices for freedom within society itself -- there's a growing number of Christians among them. Oddly I wonder whether we always think to apply such thinking to our own "house" as well.

I'll drop you an e-mail as I think this is something I'd like to chat about too.

I'm a Catholic-Christian musician and composer.
And I totally agree!

I recently started musicforsunday.com, where I write about worship music and liturgical issues. I also post FREE, Creative Commons licensed hymns and songs. (Check me out!)

On the one hand I understand composers needing to make a living. But on the big huge other hand, I can't imagine how someone would, in good conscience, sue or fine another Christian for using their song in worship or making a few copies so that everyone can see the words. That doesn't seem much like a Church that has "all things in common."

But I don't think enough of us (us=the new generation of digitally-savvy christian musicians who understand the digital economy and post-modern IP issues) are talking about this stuff enough. Perhaps we need a worship-resource specific version of the CC license, which we can use and promote within the Christian World.

Anyone want to catch up with me and work on that?
