These projects are suitable as a first woodworking project. I am assuming you know how to use a hand saw, a screwdriver or a hammer without hurting yourself. Power tools used, if any, will be a drill or maybe a sander.

Tea preparation tray
A photo of the finished tea tray

We have long had a tea-making tray by our kettle. It's usually long and not too wide. We don't often use it to carry things (although we sometimes do). Our last one broke. After years of abuse it cracked and split. The gaffer tape fix wasn't doing the trick either. I decided to make a new one from some recycled timber I had. It's a fairly simple idea and not much of a plan needed.

Raised bed planter
A 3D representation of the raised planter

This is another very simple project. You can build it from recycled wood, e.g. pallets, but I used treated decking board and timber because it was going to be outside and exposed to moisture due to watering the plants. The weed control fabric helps keep the soil in and the roots warm in the winter. You can use plastic sheeting but make sure you add some drainage holes in it at the bottom. I built this planter about ten years ago and it is still going very strong. I use it to grow herbs in.

Upcycled plant stands
The completed plantstands

A very simple project which I built from reclaimed materials. Two plant stands, one tiered one not, for indoor use. We needed a new plant stand and I have been wanting to build an A-frame one for a while. As a bonus we got a smaller one as well.

Door number planter
The completed door number planter

This is really a simple project you can easily build it from reclaimed/recycled materials. It makes a real impact to a front approach. Think of it as a combination between a hanging basket and a wood-carved door number
